Charles Palmier’s Original Maltese Paintings

Charles Palmier was born in Gzira, in 1950. At a very young age he started showing interest in drawing. He studied at the St Joseph Secondary Technical School in Paola and later at the School of Arts in Msida. His favorite subjects were Art and History, which later greatly influenced his works. In 1975 he opened his Art Studio in Sliema. Charles specializes in water colour paintings, and pen and ink drawings. In his landscape and seascape drawings he often likes to include Maltese characters. Charles also loves to paint historic scenes, especially scenes depicting Maltese history.

In the paintings above, we can see that Charles Palmier focuses mainly on typical and traditional Maltese buildings and country-side. Most of the paintings he provides are exquisitely detailed and offer a glimpse into what certain structures and areas used to look like in the past. The beautiful painting of the Maltese balcony is a perfect example of simplicity and detail all at once. The intricate design of the balcony, in comparison to it’s surroundings make it stand out more prominently.
