Il-Forn is a fun and inspirational place. A wine bar that doubles as an art gallery situated in the old village of Birgu (Vittoriosa). An enchanting walk through the narrow, stepped and floral decorated alleys will get you to this hideout built in 1637.

This was probably the first trendy wine bar in Malta to open outside of the more touristy areas of the island. These sorts of ventures have given a new lease of life to our old villages at night and the locals have really taken them to heart. Il-Forn’s rooms and furniture were actually decorated and partly designed by the Austrian Artist Clemens Hasengschwandtner who considers the building as an ongoing art project. The walls come to life with creative works that give the whole atmosphere a pleasant spice. Blue tends to be the dominant colour and you will find yourself twisting your head trying to take in each experimental detail. These modern creations are a successful contrast to the more old-feel traditional wooden chairs and tables. The general area has character and is spacious with comfortable room between tables…there is also a lovely courtyard at the back.

As expected, the wine list is exhaustive and there is a good choice of all international varieties and regions…in fact, one of the most exhaustive and compelling wine selections in Malta. The food menu is an assortment of well balanced dishes. The team at Il-Forn go a long way to make sure to offer the crispiest bread, the best gbejniet (traditional peppered goat’s cheese), the freshest vegetables and come up with some creative ideas to combine these ingredients into mouth-watering delicatessens.

The food served ranges from pasta such as the Salmon Penne, to salads including the house speciality served with extra fresh fruit, open ftiras (local bread) such as the loaded Wowi’s Favourite, a large variety of dips and platters to complement your wine as well as a refreshing dessert menu.

This is a place to enjoy company in an uplifting setting. Weekends are busy, so it is always a good idea to reserve your table.

Il–Forn offers a variety of different rooms and setups for all kind of venues. Our ground floor can seat up to 80 persons, ‘Il-Bitha’ 40 persons and the ‘Ghorfa’ 40 persons comfortably.

We also cater for private functions – Birthday, Bachelors, Hens, Staff Parties, BBQ’s etc..”
