Gladiator a historical film that came out in 2000, it was directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Pheonix, Connie Nielsen and Oliver Reed. Russell Crowe plays a fictitional character called Maximus a loyal Roman General. The story is about Maximus who is betrayed by the Emperor’s son, Commodus. Maximus sold to slavery, rises through the ranks of the Gladiatorial arena to avenge his family and his emperor. The scenes of Rome were shot in Fort Ricasoli. One-third of Rome’s Colosseum was built to a height of 52 feet and the rest of the Colosseum was computer-generated.

The film Troy came out in 2004 an epic war film directd by Wolfgang Petersen and written by David Benioff. The story is based on Greek Mythology on Homer’s Iliad, when Achilles and his men invade Troy with a gigantic wooden horse as a victory trophy. The film starring Brad Pitt, Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom. The film was shot in various parts of the Maltese Islands such as Fort Ricasoli as the City of Troy, Mellieha and the Blue Lagoon in Comino.

The series Game of thrones is an american fantasy drama series created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. An adaptation from the fantasy novels by George R. R Martin. The first season was filmed in Malta featuring Mdina used for King’s Landing, Fort Manoel as the Great Sept of Baelor. Also featurng the Azure Window for the Dothraki wedding, San Anton Palace as the Red keep, Fort St. Angelo as the Red Keep Dungeon and Fort Ricasoli as the Red Keep Gate to King’s Landing.

Popeye

Popeye Village
Popeye is a 1980 musical comedy starring Robin Williams as Popeye and Shelly Duvall as Olive Oyl. The story is based on Popeye, a one eyed sailor who loves eating spinach, in search of his father and his encounters in Sweet Haven Village. The location for filming was in Mellieha at Anchor Bay, the film production constructed houses which still stand to this day.

World War Z

World war Z
World War Z came out in 2013 an action horror film directed by Marc Forster. The film stars Brad Pitt, a former UN investigator who travels around the world to help find a way to stop the zombie apocalypse. The filming locations include Valletta for ‘Jerusalem’ scenes and Malta’s International Airport in Luqa for ‘Atarot Airport’, Fort St. Elmo and many other places.
